Ares Ultimate

Posted by jeromesimpson on June 9, 2008

I’ve got Windows Vista on my computer. I’m also blessed with being only able to use AOL for my ISP. These two in combination would likely prevent me from using any serious music filesharing software, or so I thought.

When a friend recommended Ares Ultimate I was initially skeptical: would this really solve all my problems? Is this the software that I have been dreaming about at night? I doubted it. Even when I went to the Ares Ultimate download site I was still doubting its panacean qualities: it didn’t even mention AOL or Vista on the site. Hmmm.

I found that it didn’t mention Vista or AOL because it just worked. Just like that. Within 5 minutes of downloading the (admittedly quite large) Ares Ultimate file I was downloading some classic thrash-metal fusion from the network. While I was rocking to this I was grabbing the classic “If you wanna’” by those lovely spice girls. This was heaven.

Once I’d got over the excitement of actually having a filesharing program that worked, I took some time to examine the software itself. There was nothing in Ares Ultimate of real concern to me and it all looked well enough. There were enough options there to keep me occupied for some years to come and yet it kept everything just as simple as it needed to be.
